IndriDirichletSimilarity produces negative scores, and since 10.3.0 a top-k TermQuery search under it silently returns no hits, because BatchScoreBulkScorer passes a hit to the collector only if its score is at least the initial minimum competitive score of 0

Finding LFV-190Area: search / similarities and top-k bulk scoring (IndriDirichletSimilarity, TermQuery bulk scorer, BatchScoreBulkScorer)Priority: mediumImpact: silent wrong resultsNovelty: known upstream

What it shows

You set IndriDirichletSimilarity on the writer and the searcher, run a plain TermQuery with IndexSearcher#search(query, 10), and expect the documents that count() and explain() report as matches. Since 10.3.0 you get no hits at all: the similarity scores are logarithms of probabilities and therefore negative, and the batch bulk scorer that TermQuery uses since 10.3.0 hands a hit to the collector only if its score is at least the minimum competitive score, which starts at 0. In the 4-document repro the term 'washington' matches 2 documents (explain value -1.098113) and search returns 0 of them; 10.2.2 returns both.

javac -d classes -cp "$CP" $(find src -name '*.java')

Gradle alternative: copy the test into the matching module's src/test/ tree of the checkout and run ./gradlew -p lucene/<module> test --tests <class> -Ptests.seed=<seed> (add -Ptests.asserts=false for a run without assertions).
