- Root cause
- The code a minimal fix changes. Symptoms with the same fix site count as one finding.
- New, known upstream, and known outside Lucene
- New: the prior-report search found no earlier report, issue, pull request or list discussion of the finding. Known upstream: others got there first in Lucene’s own issues, pull requests or mailing lists. Known outside Lucene: others described it only elsewhere, such as another project’s issue or a port’s code. A known finding of either kind is rediscovered, tracked apart and not counted.
- Security-sensitive
- Security-sensitive means in scope of Lucene’s SECURITY.md; those are reported privately first. Every other finding is an ordinary public finding and carries no security mark.
- Details withheld
- Details withheld pending security review: the finding counts in every total, but the table shows only its ID, module, priority tier and whether it is new or already known (see Security).
- Priority
- High, Medium or Low, and a rank across the findings shown in full (1 = most important): a judgement over how far the finding reaches, core or module, usual or rare inputs, severity, default or opt-in configuration, and released or unreleased code.
- Likelihood
- How realistically a user runs into the problem: common, plausible, rare or contrived. It describes the finding; it is not a score.
- Filed or triaged
- A new finding that has been filed upstream, as a report or as an issue for discussion (tracked in apache/lucene#16937), that a Lucene maintainer has triaged, whatever the call, or that has an upstream fix pull request (the Triage column shows both). The status board counts these findings, and the Status menu’s “Filed or triaged” entry lists them, also those triaged as won’t fix that the table otherwise hides.
- Formal methods and testing baselines
- Formal methods check a model or the code against a precise specification by state-space search, constraint solving or proof: here TLA+/TLC, Alloy, P, Dafny, KeY/OpenJML, Z3 and cvc5, JBMC and CBMC, and Java PathFinder. They are one of the project’s main techniques; the testing baselines beside them are model-based and differential testing, fuzzing, static analysis and stress.
- First finder
- The method whose output gave the first signal for a finding; its tier (formal, semi-formal, non-formal or non-formal baseline) is in How findings are found.
- Repro
- An executable test that fails on an affected build and passes once the code is fixed.
